Connections

Connections

We believe parents can give their children a wonderful start in life with an environment of “Language, Literature and Love.” Baby TALK supports this environment through personal connections and services like these.

Ways we connect

1

Hospital Visits

During the mother’s stay on the obstetric unit at DCH Regional or Northport Medical Centers, Baby TALK teachers visit and provide a parenting guide and other resources to families.

2

Baby TALK Times

Baby TALK Times focus on information about child development and provide for parent-child interaction within a support group format. For parents and their children 0 – 3. Older siblings also welcome.

3

Developmental Newsletters

Content may include words of encouragement, suggested children’s literature, tips for communicating with your baby, age-appropriate activities, local events and resources, and more!

4

Parent Resource Library

PRL provides an extensive collection of parenting resources including: techniques for parenting, strategies for giving your child the best start, children’s books, STEAM activities and more!

5

Prenatal Clinics

Prenatal Clinics empower parents to be ready for their babies by providing an outlet for support and sharing information about infant development & appropriate activities for babies.

6

Well-child Visits

Baby TALK teachers update parents about the stage of their child’s development, talk with them about the challenges of that stage, and suggest positive interactions and play appropriate to that stage.

Baby TALK also provides a CARDBOARD BOOK for families during Baby TALK hospital visits. Cardboard books are just one easy way parents can safely explore the joys of reading to their babies.

Baby TALK is accessible.

New parents are busy. That’s why Baby TALK makes itself as readily accessible as possible for families to receive meaningful services. That means we go where parents are already:

  • To obstetric units at area hospitals
  • WIC Clinics/Human Service Centers
  • Community events focused on child development
  • Area high schools
  • Other community service agencies

What families can expect from Baby TALK hospital visits

During your stay on the obstetric unit at DCH Regional Medical Center or Northport Medical Center, Baby TALK teachers may visit to talk about ways to nurture a positive relationship with your baby, to share infant development information, and to suggest developmentally appropriate activities.

At every Baby TALK visit, the teacher introduces a handout about newborns. Parents are allowed to choose a free board book for their babies. You are also given a copy of Baby TALK’s parenting manual Babies & Books: a Joyous Beginning.

We hope to keep in touch. Our Developmental Newsletters, sent the first three years of your baby’s life, continue to share tips for communicating with your baby, age-appropriate activities, local events and resources, and more!
